- How long has MAO Foundation been in existence?
Mississippi Against Obesity Foundation was established in April 2007.
- Who would qualify for the program?
Anyone 65 or older with Medicare as their primary insurance may qualify, must be overweight, obese or morbidly obese.
- How do you apply for the program?
You may apply online at MAOFoundation.com or you may call 601-983-7494 to make application by phone. It generally takes about 10 minutes.
- Is there any out-of-pocket cost for the program?
No. The program is sponsored by Medicare and the Mississippi Against Obesity Foundation. We do not sell any products or services
- Is it just for persons in the Jackson, MS area?
No. Anyone in the state of Mississippi is eligible.
- How long is the program?
The program is continuous. However, there are criteria that have to be met for an individual to continue. You must lose weight!
- Is there a deadline for application?
The program is continuous. There is no deadline. You will have continued support to help you sustain a positive outcome.
- How effective is the program?
In 2008, MAOF began under a $35 million dollar grant that required recorded data to be reported in order to show the effectiveness of the program. Continued collection of data supports the program to be 98% effective for those who follow the guidelines and complete the program.
